Jamie Foley - Award-winning Christian fantasy author
Two of my great-grandmothers—from both sides of Two of my great-grandmothers—from both sides of my family—were legendary gardeners. I grew up hearing tales that their homes were engulfed in green life, flowers, fruits, and vegetables.

My ancestors sailed from Oldenburg in the 1800's—before it was Germany—but they didn't arrive in the United States. They immigrated to the Republic of Texas.

Generations later, we're still on the same cattle ranch and pecan orchard we're so blessed to have: Pecan Valley Farm & Ranch.

So you might understand why agriculture is in my blood, and it's been a dream of mine to grow my own produce organically on my own homestead and sell at the farmer's market. That dream came true last week with my new brand, Pecan Valley Heritage.

If you're ever in La Grange or Giddings, Texas, or maybe even Bastrop, you might just see me at the farmer's market. When I'm not writing or typesetting, of course... 😘

✨ ANNOUNCEMENT ✨ As I write the conclusion to ✨ ANNOUNCEMENT ✨

As I write the conclusion to the Katrosi Revolution series, I'm not starting one new series.

I'm starting TWO new series.

And I couldn't be more stoked about them, but all I can say right now is this:

 - They are both sci-fi/fantasy
 - They have different tones/styles
 - They are for different audiences

Care to take any guesses as to the specific subgenres or ideas I'm venturing into? Here are some clues:

Series #1:
 - For signs and for seasons
 - Bloodlines
 - Ice
 - What about side by side with a friend?

Series #2:
 - Nostalgic
 - Out-of-the-box
 - Danger
 - Fun

SNEAK PEEK: Anyone who comes up to me at the Realm Makers Conference and says the super secret password will get a super secret sneak peek preview of the cover for one of my new series before its public reveal. The super secret password is JADEN.

Stay tuned for updates! 😘
For my fellow creatives 😊✨ I'm a doer. So th For my fellow creatives 😊✨

I'm a doer. So this season without "productivity" has been difficult for me. Sometimes, when you have a newborn, or you move, or you're sick (or all of the above), it's all you can do in a day just to survive. There might be entire seasons of difficulty. In this life, it's pretty much guaranteed.

With our new (old) house we prioritized the construction of a vegetable garden. Today's harvest was peppers, tomatoes, and basil. It looks like a big harvest, and it is certainly enough to make a nice batch of tomato basil soup.

But I lost 2/3rds of my harvest to mockingbirds just taking a few bites and leaving the rest to be eaten by fire ants. Then I got sick and then sick again, and couldn't go out in the sun on doctor's orders. Neglected, my beautiful red tomatoes split in the heat and withered on the vine.

As I harvested the remains today, there were so many that I had to bury in the soil to nourish future harvests. It reminded me of my perceived failures in writing. The many ideas that will never see the light of day, but that learned experience can make me a better writer in the future.

Then there were those tomatoes that could be salvaged, if only small portions. How many days did I miss writing time because of that day's troubles? But even though I couldn't write as much or as fast as before, my mind was still working. Imagining. Plotting. Outlining one-handed on my phone with a sleeping baby in the other.

Don't get caught up in the word count. Don't just see a bunch of rotten tomatoes. Salvage what you can and press forward. The only way you truly fail is when you give up.

If you've got writer's block, or the season you're in is just not conducive to creativity, you're not alone. It's OK to take a break. Try switching to another creative outlet, or pre-writing to dip your toes back in. I'm so grateful for my friends who pressed me to do whatever I could, no matter how little, every time I had a spare minute.

And now, looking back, I can see the value in the remains I struggled to scrape together. And maybe, just maybe, I can be kinder to myself as this hard season begins to draw to a close.

Hey, this soup ain't half bad.
